FAQ

“Where is the best place to propose at Moraine Lake or Lake Louise?”
Banff National Park has some truly beautiful proposal locations, depending on the time of day and crowds.
See the Google Map below for more information on location suggestions.
At Moraine Lake, for example, some of the most iconic views are along the shoreline and rockpile area.
Lake Louise, has some quieter spots along the lakeshore that often work beautifully for proposals.
Once your session is booked, I’ll recommend the best location based on lighting, timing, and how busy the area is expected to be.
"What should I wear?"
When planning your outfits for a photoshoot in Banff and the surrounding Rockies, we recommend sticking to neutral and earth-tone colours—think soft blues, greys, blacks, and whites. These tones not only complement the natural landscape but also make it easy to coordinate with your partner without worrying about clashing.
In the summer months, feel free to add a subtle pop of colour—shades of blue or yellow work beautifully against the vibrant alpine backdrop. In winter, however, it's best to avoid all-white outfits, as they can blend too much with the snowy surroundings.
“Will my partner know the photographer is there?”
Not at all. I arrive early and position myself like any other visitor photographing the lake or mountains. Most people assume I’m just another tourist or landscape photographer.
Once you arrive at the pre-planned spot, I’ll be ready to capture the moment discreetly from a distance. Or you can ask me to take a photo of you both. Then when you're ready - drop a knee and pop the question.
After the proposal, I’ll introduce myself properly and we’ll start your engagement photos.
“What happens if the weather is bad?”
Mountain weather changes quickly, and dramatic conditions can actually create incredible photos.
If the forecast looks truly unfavourable, we can adjust the timing or location whenever possible. I’ll keep an eye on conditions leading up to the session and communicate with you to make sure we get the best possible experience.
Note that there is no cell service at Moraine Lake so we'll need to stick to the plan - the day of the surprise.
“What time of day is best for a proposal?”
Sunrise and sunset usually provide the most beautiful light and fewer crowds at both Moraine Lake and Lake Louise.
Sunrise sessions tend to be especially peaceful, while sunset offers warm light on the surrounding peaks.
I’ll help you choose the best time depending on your travel schedule and the experience you want.
"What if I want our shoot to be at midday?"
Midday in Banff can be very busy and the light can be harsh for photos. That’s why I usually recommend sunrise or sunset sessions — when the light is beautiful and the lakes are quieter.
Midday light is a photographer’s worst enemy: it creates squinting, harsh shadows on faces, and washed-out backgrounds that hide those stunning mountain views.
The best way to avoid all of this?
Wake up a little earlier for a peaceful sunrise session or choose the soft, golden glow of sunset—your photos (and your experience) will thank you.
"What do you mean by 'multiple locations'?"
Great question! Multiple locations refer to different backgrounds and compositions within the same spot.
For example, at Lake Louise, we’ll capture photos in various scenic areas around the lake, providing diverse backdrops without leaving the location.
More locations mean more variety in your photos.
“How quickly will we receive our photos?”
You’ll receive a small preview gallery within a few hours so you can share the news with friends and family.
Your full professionally edited gallery will typically be delivered within 4-6 weeks
You can expedite this process too in "Session Extras" for a fee.
“Do you help plan the proposal?”
Absolutely. I regularly help couples plan the timing, location, and approach for their proposal so everything feels natural and stress-free.
From choosing the right viewpoint to coordinating where I’ll be positioned, I’ll guide you through the process so you can focus on enjoying the moment.
What the moment actually feels like...
The moment before you drop to one knee is quiet.
The mountains are still, the lake is glowing, and suddenly
everything feels real.
Then it happens — surprise, laughter, maybe a few tears — and the moment becomes a memory you'll carry for the rest of your life.
