Yellowknife

Yellowknife

Situated on the Northern shore of Great Slave Lake, Yellowknife is the capital of the Northwest Territories, Canada. Founded in 1934, the city is located in the traditional territory of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation who founded the nearby community of Dettah in the early 1930s.

Just 250 miles from the Arctic Circle, Yellowknife is a raw and harsh environment to live in, with Winter temperatures regularly plumitting below -50°c, whilst in the height of Summer, it gets over 20 hours of daylight! With its latitude comes excellent opportunities to view the Aurora Borealis. We flew 4 hours North from Calgary in search of the Aurora and weren’t disappointed - even if it was -40°c!
